Propagation of German Chamomile
This plant is grown from seeds by two methods:
-
Direct Method
- In this method, the seeds are directly sown in the main soil after preparing and fertilizing the soil.
- Each hectare of land needs 3 to 4.50 kg of seeds.
- Seeds are sown in rows 12 to 15 cm apart. It is recommended to mix the seeds sand up to 3-5 times their amount and then fix them on the ground with a roller.
- Research has shown that German chamomile can be cultivated in the same field for 4-5 consecutive years.
-
Indirect Method (Transplantation)
- In this method, the seeds are first planted in the bed. The seeds germinate in 3-4 days and are transferred to the main land after 4-6 weeks.
- About 500-800 grams of German chamomile seeds with high viability will be enough to produce seedlings per hectare.
- This method is not economical because of high costs to produce seedlings and transfer them to the main land.
The Required Fertilizers
- Nitrogen
- Phosphorus
- Potash
Harvest Time
Harvest time varies according to the cultivation time. Harvesting usually begins in spring and summer with the appearance of flowers.
About 500 kg of dried flowers can be obtained per hectare.
It is better to harvest on sunny days because the plant produces more essential oil.
