Physical characteristics
- Black Mustard Seed is an annual plant with a height of 1 to 1.5 m. Its central part is often branched with a rough, hairy down at the base, while it is glabrous above. Rarely, the entire plant is glabrous. It has stalked basal leaves that are lobed-comb-shaped with a larger terminal, both surfaces hairy. The upper leaves are oblong-linear, with entire margins that are glabrous.
- The petals are about 8 mm long and 3-4 mm wide and have a dark yellow color. The silique is 10 to 17 mm long and 1.5 to 2 mm wide with a thin tip 1.5 mm long.
- The fruit is attached to the peduncle with a narrow central wall. The seeds are located inside the fruit which are round and dark brown.
