Physical characteristics
Hawthorn fruit is a shrub or small tree that reaches a height of up to 5 m. It has broad branches with strong spines up to 2.5 m long. The leaves are broadly ovate or ellipse, wedge-shaped, and 1.5 to 5 cm long. Moreover, leaves can be found with 3-5 finely toothed lobes, that are acute or relatively acute and glabrous. The petioles are 6 to 15 mm long and the inflorescence is glabrous. It has 5 to 12 flowers that are 1.5 cm wide. The fruit is spherical or broadly oval, 8-15 mm long, red, with two seeds, and spherical shape. There is a hard seed in the central part of the fruit, that is red, orange, and sometimes black.
