What is Lemongrass?
Lemongrass is a plant with the scientific name of Cymbopogon Citratus from the genus Poaceae and one of the export herbs with great demand in the world market.
This plant is harvested 3-4 times a year.
Physical Description
It is a perennial plant which grows to about 2-2.5 meters. The stalk is erect, smooth, and hairless. The leaves are green, 60-90 cm long, with glabrous and rough upper surface. The flowers are phanerogam with a length of 30-40 cm. the roots have a fibrous system, with short numerous branches.

Aerial organs include essential oils, triterpenes, and polyphenols.
The chemical composition of the essential oil obtained from the roots of this herb consists of 10 compounds, among which Longifolen is 56.67%, with the highest amount of essential oil from the roots of lemongrass.
The chemical composition of the essential oil extracted from the aerial parts of this herb includes 12 compounds, of which Citral is the most important with an approximate amount of 88%.
Citral is a combination of two isomeric aldehydes, namely Geranial (alpha-citral) and Neral (beta-citral).
Citronellol, Citronellal, Cineole, Jraniol, Limonene, etc. are the essential oil compounds of this plant.
