The pure and organic rose hip fruit, cultivated by local indigenous farmers, undergoes careful drying in the shade. Subsequently, it is precisely packaged in standardized bundles of 10, 20, or 30 g units, using triple-layered bags with premium packaging materials. These packaged products are then stored in local warehouses (product storage in the harvesting area to obtain the desired quality according to the geographical conditions of plant growth) in compliance with hygiene and quality principles.

Botanical characteristics

Rose Hip (Rosa Canina) is a shrub, ranging from 1 to 4 m in height, erect or spreading. It is covered with thorns, which are typically curved or needle-like, mostly uniform, and irregularly scattered on the trunk.

Thorns on the main branches are flat and curved, with a broad base, whereas on flowering branches, they are shorter and more numerous.

The leaflets are 30 to 45 mm long, arranged in groups of 5 to 7. They are ovate or oval, rarely lanceolate, with a sharp or pointed tip and a round or wedge-shaped base.

Furthermore, leaflets are smooth or slightly wrinkled on the underside, with two surfaces or only the lower surface being smooth, occasionally glandular-wrinkled.

The flowers are fragrant, with white or pink petals, solitary or in small clusters, with a diameter of 35 to 45 mm. The sepals are lobed, reflexed after flowering, often falling after fruit ripening. Flowering occurs from April to June.

The fruit is spherical or oval, smooth, or with glandular-wrinkled pedicels.

Initially, the fruit is light red and then turns dark red when fully ripe. Notably, its fruit is known as Cynorrhodon.

Cynorrhodon is situated beneath the sepals of this plant and prevents bleeding.

Taking 8 g of it with water helps with diarrhea, strengthens the uterus, and treats uterine infections and dampness.

Exporting Rose Hip fruit herbal tea

The utilization of herbal and fruit teas has become widespread in various countries worldwide, leading to a transformation in the production, processing, and packaging of herbal teas across the globe.

Herbal teas, derived from steeping the stems, roots, flowers, leaves, and fruits of medicinal plants, have been used since ancient times for treating ailments, even in ancient civilizations.

The herbal tea industry has led to advances in the cultivation, processing, and packaging of medicinal plants. In addition, there are large areas around the world, particularly in Asia and Africa, that are available for the cultivation of indigenous medicinal plants due to the suitable climate, soil, and favorable conditions.

In regions with unsuitable climates for plant cultivation, manufactures and investors have established specialized greenhouses and adopted hydroponic cultivation to overcome climate-related challenges.

Exports and imports of rose hip fruit have significantly contributed to the world of medicinal plants’ commerce.

Rose Hip fruit is utilized in the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and food industries in most countries, providing substantial added value for processors.

Maleki Commercial is an exporter of Rose Hip fruits and herbal teas to markets in Russia, Poland, Antigua and Barbuda, Togo, Montserrat, the United States, and Canada.

Background of Rose Hip fruit

The wild Rose Hip fruit has been used as an herbal tea since ancient times.

Its remarkable properties were first discovered by Pliny the Elder, who used it to treat wounds and ailments caused by dog bites, hence its alias “Dog Rose.”

Ibn Sina, the renowned Persian polymath (980-1037 AD), and author of “The Canon of Medicine,” and “The Book of Healing” the most significant medical reference books that were taught in European scientific centers for nearly 700 years, mentioned this plant as a useful medicinal herb for improving oral wounds, naming it “Dog Rose.”

In ancient times, people often used a poultice made from the boiled roots of the wild Rose Hip plant, commonly known as “dog rose”,” as a remedy for bites. This poultice was applied to the affected area to prevent the onset of the disease.

Rose Hip fruit compote

What is Compote?

The term “compote” is derived from the Greek word Conservar, meaning to preserve.

Compote is a type of sweet dessert made from cooking pieces of fruits such as cherries, pineapples, apples, berries, pears, etc., with sugar. After cooking, it is preserved in sterilized cans, which is a method used to preserve and extend the shelf life of fruits.

History of compote

This method was invented by Nicolas Appert, a Frenchman, between 1803 and 1815 AD. During this period, the French government, under the rule of Napoleon Bonaparte, was engaged in wars with its allies against the variable forces of the coalition.

At that time, the French government faced many difficulties in providing nourishment for its troops and allies, requiring foodstuffs with long-term preservation capabilities. A prize of 12,000 francs was offered for the solution to this problem.

Appert, who worked in a distillery, experimented with various methods to solve this problem and eventually succeeded in discovering the method of canning.

In 1804, he sent his first canned goods, packaged in glass containers and boiled at 100 °C, to supply the sailors of a ship.

After successful experimentation with his canned goods, he presented them to the National Institute of Industries of France. After 8 months of testing, the canned goods were sent to the Gilosac Institute. Various scientific tests were then carried out and finally, the absence of oxygen in the canned goods and its safety were confirmed.

Rose Hip compote, made from sugar, lemon, ginger, and optionally honey or stevia, has high demand in the export market for compotes. Each factory competes with others by adding different ingredients to its Rose Hip compote recipe.

The countries that import the highest amounts of Rose Hip compote are the United States, South Korea, and Russia, while South Korea, Spain, and Uzbekistan are the leading exporters of Rose Hip compote.
